FAITH Academics Vision

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."  I Peter 4:10

The vision of the FAITH Academics Program is to work together cooperatively to support one another as we strive for:

Academic Excellence - Academics classes are designed to foster academic excellence in the students.  Social interaction is not our primary goal.

Character Development - We strive to promote strong character by requiring students to adhere to Godly behavior and personal accountability.

Greater Opportunities - Through Academics, we open more doors for students, including promoting programs such as the VFW's Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen Contests, Optimist Club Speech and Essay Contests, and MOWW Student Conferences.

Increased Credibility - Academics allows parents to issue transcripts with input and grades from outside sources.

College Preparation - Students involved in Academics are enrolled in classes designed to help them prepare for college classes.  In addition, the structure of Academics is similar to college in that students meet once weekly and complete the bulk of their work independently.  Previous Academics students have stated this helped them transition to college schedules more easily than some of their public-schooled peers.

FAITH Academics Overview

FAITH Academics is a cooperative program designed to enhance the homeschool experience in education.  Our goal is to offer accountability along with helpful instruction for each student enrolled in Academics.  As a cooperative program, it requires participation from EVERY PARENT who chooses to enroll their student(s) in the program.  Instructors are not paid (with the exception of our Spanish teacher, who is not a homeschooler and has no children enrolled in the program) and are dedicating countless hours to making this program a worthwhile experience for every student enrolled.  With that in mind, we ask you not to enroll your child if you cannot commit to working at least 18 hours throughout the school year.  You can work your hours as a study hall monitor, grader, helper, instructor, or siblings room worker.

Academics meets every Tuesday for 32 weeks in order to help keep students on track as they complete their work at home.  These classes are not meant to take the place of the parent as the primary instructor.  Parents are still expected to ensure their student is completing all of the work assigned and to assist their student in any way possible.

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

As a co-operative program, Academics cannot work without active participation from all those involved.    In order to be certain that everyone understands what is expected, we have outlined what we expect from each parent who has a student enrolled in the program.

·        At least 18 hours of work with the Academics program.  While you are paying fees for your student to attend Academics, those fees only cover costs.  This program only works because of our amazing volunteer base.  Think ahead and please do not schedule doctor's appointments or any other commitments during times you are supposed to be working.  Instructors are dedicating 32 hours of instructional time, in addition to many more hours of planning and grading, in order to be sure your child gets the most out of this experience.  Please be considerate of the many hours that others are working on your behalf and work your hours cheerfully.

·        Homework verification.  The instructors assign homework designed to make sure your child completes enough work to count the class as a full credit at the end of the year.  If your child does not complete the work, he/she will not have completed the course.  Also, it is difficult to maintain discipline with the entire class if some of the students are allowed to continue to attend classes without completing their work.  Enrollment in Academics does not release the parent from the responsibility of being sure the student is working on school subjects.  Please verify that your child completes the work assigned to him/her.

·        Discipline.  Our instructors are voluntarily working to instruct your children in academic subjects.  They do not need to have to deal with children who will not behave in a respectful, appropriate manner.  Please be sure your children understand the seriousness of their behavior choices and that unwise choices will end in their expulsion from the program.
